“Through Facebook I got to know someone who loves Rumi. At the time, he was working in another country than the Netherlands. After some chats, he sent me the 40 Rules of Love by Elif Shafak. It is about Rumi and Shams, the other half of Rumi whom I didn’t know much about. For him, it was a very special book, so when I was reading it I felt more connected to him – the person I never met yet.

The first quote I saw from Rumi long time ago was: “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right-doing there is a field. I’ll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about.” The connection between our meeting and the quote is a way of entering that world.

It is about to be on this field, see everyone you meet, try to be as open as possible, have no judgements, be in the moment. And this was also in our connection. Someone I didn’t meet but felt like ‘This is okay.’

Then we finally met for real – and now we are very good friends.”
